On February 11 the Canadian government decided to withdraw a policy that allowed big investors into the country to become eligible for citizenship. This policy shift left around 46,000 Chinese citizens with outstanding applications. This moved caused widespread anger and disappointment on the side of the Chinese and has led to 10 Chinese nationals to hold a meeting and subsequent press conference in Beijing to discuss taking legal action against the North American nation.
This group of dissatisfied investors are looking into legal action concerning Canada’s business credibility and have slammed the nations ‘one size fits all’ policy of cancellation.
In their defense, Canada provide some rather damning reasons why they have cancelled the policy. They assert that they have experienced too many concerns over applicants, especially after a report published in 2011 showed that 80% of Chinese applicants falsify information on their applications.
