Oral and writing tests to be included in HSK

Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 28 – The new version of HSK, Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (the International Chinese Language Proficiency Test), will be launched next April, with the contents and levels to be readjusted.

Oral and writing tests will be included in all levels of the new HSK, and this is the biggest difference, according to Sun Dejin, director of the HSK Center of Beijing Language and Culture University. Currently, only the examinees who register for the highest level of HSK will sit for the oral and writing tests.

In the written sections of the exam, new forms will appear in reading and listening parts, with the aim of checking examinees' Chinese comprehensive and communication ability.

Moreover, the former 11 levels of the HSK will merge into only 3 levels, namely elementary, middle, and high levels. Every level will involve 2 gradings: qualified and excellent.
