Like much of China, Tonglu is growing fast with a high speed train link to Hangzhou due by 2014. Unlike major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou, Tonglu is relatively untouched by foreign influences. Working in Tonglu will be a brand new cultural experience – few Tonglu residents speak English and although there is a KFC the best food is authentically Chinese. Tonglu residents are welcoming and friendly and always take an interest in foreign visitors and as a teacher at YES you will soon be recognised and looked after. The town itself has a number of excellent restaurants and although the nightlife is limited there are several bars and karaoke clubs. Nestled in the mountains, Tonglu boasts fantastic views and areas of natural splendour. The cost of living in Tonglu is very low: a good dinner will cost around £2.50. The Role If you are enthusiastic about working with children and enjoy new challenges this could be the role for you. The responsibilities of this role fall into the following areas: Teaching Key Task: Planning, preparing and delivering lessons and workshops for children and adult learners • Building bonds with children aged between 3 and 18 years old • Tailoring a recognised curriculum to the needs for your learners • Ensuring learning is a fun, interactive experience • Utilising games and technology as appropriate to engage learners • Working closely with your Chinese speaking Teaching Assistant to ensure all learners are meeting agreed targets • Assessing learners needs and progress Marketing Key task: Contributing to the success and profitability of the school by taking part in marketing and promotional activities • Assisting Chinese colleagues with marketing by, for example, meeting parents and children outside local schools • Attending marketing events • Working to ensure sign up and reenrolment targets are met • Assisting with bids for Corporate Language Training as required • Being a role model for learners and an ambassador for the school at all times Administration and Communication Key task: Ensuring students benefit from a comprehensive and coherent learning experience by taking responsibility for administration and communication in your area. • Working with your Teaching Assistant to ensure parent communication books are completed • Communicating regularly and fully with management to highlight potential issues before they escalate The Person “I love my teacher.
