A German citizen born in China surnamed Ren became the first person to file for a new long-term class of visa for overseas Chinese and relatives of long-term expats Tuesday morning.
Ren, who lives and works in Germany with his wife, told the Beijing Evening News that his elderly parents live in Beijing, and that he has had to constantly apply for tourist visas to visit them.
In March of this year, Ren contacted the Exit- Entry Administration Department and explained the status of his parents' health, asking if he could be given permission to stay longer.
"I never expected the changes to be implemented so soon," Ren said. "There are many other overseas Chinese like me facing the same problem."
With the new visa class, Ren and his wife would be able stay in China from six months up to one year per entry. They
