Yunnan Province, on the southern border of southwest China,is located in Yungui Plateau. The hilly land occupied 93 percent of the area.only 6 percent is the basin.
Yunnan is one of the birthplaces of the Chinese Nation. The Yuanmou man lived there 1.7 million years ago.

Ethnic Minority Groups
Yunnan has the highest number of ethnic groups among all provinces and autonomous regions in China. 25 ethnic groups are found in Yunnan, 38.07 percent of the province's population . The Dai and Yi are the two nationalities that known to all by their special festivals.Whether you are visiting a Dongba village, the Dai Water Splashing Festival, the Third Month Fair of the Bai Nationality, or the Torch Festival of the Yi people, you will find that Yunnan is a place that celebrates life.
Climate
As most parts of Yunnan are about 2,000 meters above sea level, the weather is favourable throughout the year, cool in summer and warm in winter, which makes Yunnan a favourable resort all the year round. Even in the hottest days, the average temperature is no more than 19℃~22℃.Yunnan has little difference in the seasonal temperature but considerable difference of temperature in a day. There are plenty of rainfall but unevenly distributed in different places as well as in different seasons.

Kunming,the provincial capital ,is marked by a pleasant spring weather which prevails year round and it is called "spring city"in china.Kunming is famous for its congenial weather and flowers.Not far from Kunming city lies the Stone Forest ,it is one of the world's natural wonders.

At the southern end of Yunnan Province bordering on Laos and Myanmar is Xishuangbanna, a tropical rainforest that is the home of the Dai people. You can find many plant species and animal species such as the Asian elephant and the protected Yunnan golden monkey.
Lijiang Old Town, rebuilt because of a devastating earthquake in 1996, is a traveler's oasis. You can enjoy the beatiful scenery of Dragon Snow mountain here.Lijiang has been designated by UNESCO as one of the world's major cultural heritages.
