The air pollution in Beijing has received international attention over the past few years. The results of a study by Germany’s Max Planck Research Institute were realeased on January 7 and revealed that more than 17,000 people die each year from pollution related diseases in Beijing alone. “The air pollution situation has become very serious,” the institute expressed.
One international school has realized the severity of the problem and has come up with a solution so that its students can exercise without endangering their health. The school had a $6.5 million oxygen tent installed on their school grounds. The tent features tennis, volleyball and badminton courts as well as a locker room and a sporting goods store. Children can use the tent for exercise but are also welcome to just hang out in there to take a break from breathing in the toxic air. All classrooms at the school have also been fitted with air purifiers for further safety.
We wish we had an oxygen tent to exercise in!
