New Smoking Laws Begin to Be Implemented January 1

Posted 2019/1/9

The Chinese government is taking a strong stance in their attempts to implement new smoking rules. With an estimated 350 million smokers in China, their task is going to be a difficult one. This week the government told all its employees that they are no longer allowed to smoke in public places or use tax money to buy their cigarettes in an attempt to lead by example.

From January 1 there will be heavy fines for smoking on moving vehicles including trains and cabs. The maximum penalty for such an offence will be 2,000 RMB. We suspect there will be moany such fines before people start obeying these particular laws.
