DECATHLON S.A is the world's leading designer, manufacturer and retailer of sporting goods. Today, this concept has reached every corner of the globe. Decathlon has 405 stores in 13 countries, with 35,000 staff and products manufactured in 16 countries. Its annual turnover in 2006 reached EUR 410 million. Decathlon set up its own manufacturing department in 1986. Decathlon owns the R&D centre in France and caters for more than 60 different sports through 13 of its own dedicated brands. Decathlon stores provide everything under one roof. The customers can choose themselves or get help from its dedicated sales assistants, who are all keen sports enthusiasts. By offering the lower prices around for its own Passion Brand products in the stores, Decathlon meets its goal of creating desirability and making the pleasure of sport accessible to all. In January 1998, Decathlon opened its first factory outlet store in Xinzhuang, Shanghai, in preparation for the introduction of Decathlon stores. In August 2003, Decathlon officially relocated its Asia headquarters (including manufacturing and retail) from Hong Kong to Shanghai. On November 5th 2003, the first Decathlon Chinese store was opened in Pudong, Shanghai. Decathlon have 18 stores in China so far, of which six are in Shanghai, three in Beijing, two in Shenzhen, as well as one store in each of the cities of Guangzhou, Nanjing, Qingdao, Wuxi, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Dalian. 1500 young sports lovers are working for Decathlon China.
