Introduction to University for Science and Technology
The University of Science and Technology Beijing is a comprehensive institute of higher learning with the approval from the Beijing Municipal Government and put on records in the Ministry of Education. The University is located in the northwest of Beijing, bordering the Life Garden of Zhong Guan Cun Hi-Tech Zone (known as China’s Silicon Valley) and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Village. It was established in 1997 and it has now become one of the top ten best and largest public-sponsored universities of higher education among over 100 in Beijing.
The University has capable leaders with excellent management experience. It is also innovative and uses advanced, forward-looking education strategies as well as novel course designs. The University has strived to live up to the motto: "Educating the students to dedicate themselves to the service of their motherland and running the university with high quality.” BUST bears in mind the idea of “Educating is serving; she adheres to the working principles of “refined teaching, hard studying, strict administration and observance of discipline.” BUST does its best to vigorously implement the policy of “satisfaction for the students and no worry for their parents”. This policy covers education and teaching, board and lodging, medical service, security and future employment.
The quality of the University’s learning and teaching has been furthered over the last six years through the Learning and Teaching Strategic Plan. This plan has driven the planning and systematic review of courses, subjects and procedures, dynamic delivery modes and enhanced staff development systems. The university is developing the form of “3 in 1 combination” involving teaching, research and production. It will enhance its position as a university with a national reputation for high quality, student-centered education. It obtained one of the model universities with outstanding reputation designations by the Higher Education Quality Assessment Committee in 2001.
The university provides a unique study opportunity for the students, offering high teaching standards, excellent facilities, support services, and an environment conducive to study. BUST is a modern university dedicated to delivering quality programmes of study that are academically stimulating and provides practical skills for exciting and rewarding careers. There are currently over 12000 full time students from all over China and over 1000 staff members. The university boasts a high–level faculty, with 122 full professors, 255 associate professors, 166 lecturers, and 101 assistants.

BUST attaches a great importance to building a healthy and progressive campus culture and undertakes rich diversified after-class activities for the students. There are over seventy student clubs and societies.
BUST’S two campus covers an area of 237 hectares and an architectural area of 240,000 sqm. It has 30 large –scale Internet labs with 2700 computers, 15 multi-media classrooms. A fiber-optic network platform for the LAN, TV and radio station within the campus to facilitate the individual studies of the students. The university developed e-library platform shares the library resources of the famous universities such as Tsinghua University and Peking University. Other resources include a cultural plaza of 7000 square meters, a gymnasium of 5000 square meters, a soccer field of 5000 square meters, and a fitness club of 1000 square meters to enrich the cultural and social life of the students.
There are nine convenient canteens, each with a capacity for 1000 people, serving healthy southern and northern dishes at a low price. Student’s dormitories are equipped with TV sets, telephones and washing machines on each floor. A health clinic, post office, supermarket, bookstore, Internet bar, and laundry satisfy everyday needs for the students.
