Pattison English, based in Vancouver, Canada, is looking for teachers in its Shenyang, China location. Shenyang is the capital city of Liaoning Province in Northeast China, and it is also a hub of culture and history. Pattison English has teachers teaching in both Pattison English Training Center and high quality contracted public schools. Both schools have certain strengths.
Pattison English Training Center is a private school focusing on high quality adult and business English. There four types of classes – One-on-one VIP classes, private classes for a maximum of 4 students, salon classes for a maximum of 12 students, and English corner classes for around 15 to 20 students. Students are graded when they enter the school and are put in the appropriate level, of which there are ten different levels. For all compulsory classes there are prepared curriculums, and for all English Corner classes there are pre-prepared topics. All classes are conversational. One of the biggest benefits of Pattison is the small class size and the high English level of students.
The benefits for Pattison Training Center are as follows:
Hours: 40 working hours per week (eight per day) including 25 teaching hours (five per day) and one lunch/dinner hour every day; two consecutive days off every week.
Holidays: Paid Chinese holidays (3 days in May, 3 days in October, and 7 days in January/February) and Christmas Day off.
Payment: The base salary is 5,500 RMB (about 675 USD) plus 1,000 RMB (USD 120) for housing allowance plus 100 RMB for monthly transportation. There is a three-month probation period, after which point you may be eligible for a 500 RMB pay raise as well.
There is also a 3,000 RMB (USD375) airfare payment at the end of every six months.
The contracted public schools include some of the very best elementary, middle, and high schools in the city, as well as a few local universities. Most class sizes range from 30 to 50 students depending on the type of school. Classes are based on both pre-prepared teaching materials and your own creativity. Games and activities are also highly recommended in class. One of the biggest benefits of the public schools is the long vacation offered in the summer and winter, as well as having weekends off.
The benefits for the public schools are:
Hours: 20-25 teaching hours per week. Lunch provided by schools. Saturdays and Sundays off.
Holidays: Paid Chinese holidays (same as above) and Christmas Day off.
Two longer vacations each year (summer vacation and winter vacation) during which only accommodation will be paid.
Payment: 4,000 RMB (USD500) monthly base salary for maximum 20 teaching hours per week or 5,000 RMB (USD 615) monthly base salary for maximum 25 teaching hours per week. 800 RMB for accommodation each month plus 100 RMB for transportation each month, paid with salary.
There is also a 3,000 RMB airfare payment at the end of every six months
Qualifications:
1. Native speaker
2. Holder of a Bachelors degree or above (TEFL / TESOL certificate holder is accepted as well, dependant on experience)
3. One or two years English teaching experience (in China preferred)
4. Good personality and attitude; positive and talkative
Class rules:
1. Must dress nicely (dress pants, dress shoes, shirts, ties and suits preferred)
2. Respect for the cultures, religions, and political system is required in class.
3. No verbal or physical abuse of students
