On the evening of March 6, a woman in Fuyang, Zhejiang, attempted suicide by jumping into a river. After two days of scouring the river, the family got a call and said that she had been found, 300 km away in Taizhou, alive. When reunited with her family she said she couldn't remember anything and was just glad to be home.
On March 10 the twist of the story unfolded. The woman admitted to the police that the entire act was a scam, which she undertook as a lesson to her husband to appreciate her. She had jumped into the river but then promptly exited, unseen, and was helped by a friend to escape to Taizhou to await her big unveiling.
