The author’s 30 years experience in America tells us that retaining your own way of life maybe is the better way to integrate into the American, a nation of immigrants. The International characteristics of the United States whose “multiculturalism”makes it more like "United Nations", is to encourage people to live in their original lifestyle.
The foreigners is an important part in Chinese cities’ process of internationalization. So how to let the foreigners integrate into Chinese society while keeping their diverse lifestyles is a big issue eager to be resolved. Let the foreigners change their guests identity thus become a member of the city and make contributions to the city especially to its culture. Our survey found that foreigners in Shanghai are more satisfying to the transportation, tourism and environment than the health care, education, employment and public civilization. They set up their own website, offering a variety of life informations. Survey in Nanjing has similar discovery. Most foreigners find places for their own weekly activities, instead of going to Chinese churches.
As more and more foreigners pouring into China, we should build a more multicultural city by learning from the experience of foreign countries to exchange the living culture. It is the exact time for China to step towards the world, open our hearts to accommodate more and more world's inhabitants.
