Chinese Characteristic, Xin Appreciation

Posted 2017/8/27

In the oracle bone inscriptions, the character "Xin" is similar to a heart painted by simple lines. The pictograph of Xin really makes us admire the wisdom of our ancestors. The structure of human body was still a mystery at that time for the absence of the anatomy. How amazing when we saw "Xin", one of the earliest characters, so similar to the shape of the heart?

After all, during the remote ancient times, our ancestors had little knowledge of the functions of the human organ, which resulted in some misunderstandings. For example, they regarded the heart as the organ of thinking; therefore, most of the characters related to thinking take it as a radical. A lot of Chinese words and expressions are related to Xin (heart), for example, xinxin xiangyin (to have mutual affinity), chengxin chengyi (heartily), xinshen buding (fidgety), xinhuang yiluan (perturbed; panicky), yongxin (at pains), suixin suoyu (to do whatever one wants), sanxin eryi (be of two minds), chuxin jilv (deliberately plan), guanxin (care; concern).
