Posted 2017/8/22

Hills in China can be generally divided into two large groups or five smaller groups. The two large groups refer to the hills in the southeast which comprise hills in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi, and the Jiaoliao Hills which consist of hills in eastern Liaoning province and Shandong Province. The vast areas of hills and low mountains extending to the Yangtze River in the north, the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the west, and the sea in the east are collectively called Southeastern Hills. The hills lying north of Nanling Mountains are called Jiangnan Hills; those lying south of Nanling Mountains are called Liangguang (Guangdong-Guangxi) Hills; and those in Zhejiang Province and Fujian Province are called Zhemin Hills.

The hilly areas in China have various landforms. Some become world famous scenic spots for their uniqueness and gracefulness, such as Mount Tai which tops the five sacred mountains of Taoism, Mount Huang which is renowned for its grotesque rocks and cliffs, Mount Lu which features cascades and pines, Gulin area which boasts picturesque scenery, and so on.
