A Tune of Homesickness is the second song of Inner Mongolia Suite composed in 1937 by Ma Sicong (1912-1987), a renowned Chinese violinist and educator. The theme of the tune is from a Suiyuan folk song. At that time, the Japanese invaders were rampaging through north China and students of the three provinces in the northeast went into exile inside Shanhaiguan Pass singing patriotic lines like "my home is on the banks of the Songhuajiang River in the northeast". After traveling in the north for some time, Ma Sicong returned to Guangzhou, where he composed A Tune of Homesickness with the inspiration from a Suiyuan folk song. The tune touched the heartstrings of numerous Chinese people fighting the anti-Japanese war. It has been handed down till today as an immortal treasure of modern Chinese ethnic music, striking a chord with generations of patriotic and home-loving Chinese people
