Starting Annual Salary:  95,622 RMB plus benefits (before tax; individual social insurance contributions are the responsibility of the individual; salary is non-negotiable)

Job Summary: The Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) is a world-wide network of professionals in international business development (IBD), with preferred access to knowledge and business contacts, and a commitment to advancing Canadian commercial interests abroad.

In 2009, the Canadian government established a Representative Office (RO) to bring TCS services to Nanjing .  The office operates under the authority of the Canadian Commercial Corporation ( CCC ), an independent agency of the Government of Canada with a mandate to assist in the development of Canada ’s international commerce. 

We are seeking an IBD Assistant to help administer the office and support business development activities.   Under the supervision of the RO Manager, the IBD Assistant will be responsible for the daily administration of the RO; manage correspondence, schedules, records and financial accounts; provide client services to Canadian businesses and their Chinese partners; and support the Manager in all aspects of his or her business development activities.  This is an exciting developmental opportunity for an energetic individual who wishes to join, help build and grow Canada’s network of trade offices in China.

REQUIREMENTS:


EDUCATION: Graduation from university with a major in a relevant field (e.g. commerce, marketing, business administration, international trade) or the equivalent educational background with demonstrable job-related experience.


LANGUAGE:

- Proficiency in Mandarin – reading, writing and speaking.

- Proficiency in English – reading, writing, and speaking. (This may be evidenced with a TEM 4, CET6, or IELTS Band 6.) 

 

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience working in a dynamic business office environment

- Experience with client service and the management of business relationships

- Experience working both independently and within a team to accomplish goals

- Experience with modern office systems, including paper and electronic record-keeping and telecommunications systems

- Experience dealing with the procurement of goods and services, and the management of financial records

 

KNOWLEDGE:

- General knowledge of the business environment in the area served by the RO, including its economic and industrial base, its leading commercial organizations and educational institutions

- General knowledge of local governmental structure (municipal and provincial) including economic development and investment promotion agencies and key decision-makers

- General knowledge of the forms of international trade and investment activity

- General knowledge of Canada, its economy, society and institutions

 

ABILITIES:

- Ability to assimilate information quickly, evaluate it and make sound decisions

- Ability to work both independently and within a team

- Ability to multi-task and manage detailed information and complex tasks

- Ability to deal effectively with clients and VIPs in public and official settings

- Ability to use word-processing and spreadsheet applications effectively, including Microsoft Outlook for Windows, Excel and Word.

LANGUAGE:

- Proficiency in French (reading, writing and speaking)

- Proficiency in other languages used in the area served by the RO

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience in international trade promotion

- Experience working in a foreign commercial establishment, in China or abroad

- Experience conducting “open source” research, i.e., research using published sources (Internet, news and journals) and summarizing the findings of that research for business purposes

- Experience working or studying in Canada or elsewhere overseas
