About the position
Applicants should have:
· Specialist qualifications in the area of English language teaching to speakers of other languages. These should ideally be at the master’s level in TESOL, TEFL or Linguistics.
· Substantial experience (3 years or longer) of teaching international students either in the People’s Republic of China or elsewhere.
· Awareness of the university system and environment in one of the major Anglophone destinations and of the demands that international students will face in undertaking undergraduate or graduate level study abroad
Key Accountabilities:
· Meeting Study Group standards as set out in the staff handbook
· Teaching a maximum of 25 hours per week to groups of international students
· Taking responsibility for mentoring and monitoring the progress of a group of 20 students for a further hour a week (tutorial session)
· Preparing appropriately for the above responsibilities, both in terms of teaching materials and materials appropriate to the tutorial sessions
· Promote student conduct in line with policies detailed in the student handbook
· Establish, promote and maintain a focused and productive classroom learning environment
· Writing student assignments and end of course examinations and related mark schemes to deadlines announced by the Academic Director/Examinations Officer
· Undertaking the regular marking of student work and providing students with substantial and serviceable feedback on that work
· Participating fully in the summative assessment of students through the marking of assignments, in-term tests/quizzes and final course examinations
· Providing formal, written reports on students’ progress to the Academic Director both mid-term and at the end of each term
· Providing the Academic Director with informal feedback on individual students, as required
· Assisting the Academic Director in the review and updating of the English and Study Skills curriculum offered in the ISPs
· Participating in staff meetings, as called by the Academic Director
· Contributing to and participating in staff development sessions
· Supplying final course marks in a timely fashion to the Academic Director/Examinations Officer for the end of term Examination Boards
· Attending Examination Boards and providing a brief verbal report on students’ progress and results, both as individuals and as groups or classes
· Contributing material to the Academic Director for inclusion in the annual report on the work and progress of the ISPs as a whole
· Assisting the Academic Director and administrative staff in student orientation, as required
· Supporting the Academic Director in the testing of students on commencement of their studies to confirm the results of testing on application of their ability in English
· Meeting staff of both the host university and from the partner institutions overseas and assisting through this dialogue in the development of a strong and positive relationships between the ISPs and their university partners
