Privately-owned, Western-managed International Preschool (RMB15,000 – 18,000) Pudong, Shanghai
We are a privately-owned and western-managed international preschool looking for a full-time native-English speaker, male or female, with experience in early-childhood education to join our team of dedicated teachers. Many of our teachers have been with us for 2 or more years and counting.
We are a small school with a big heart. The school atmosphere is “warm and welcoming” and that makes it feel like “home away from home,” say our international parents. Our students come to us from all over the world and they range in age from 2 – 6 years old. We have 4 age-groups: 2-3 years old (Toddlers), 3-4 years old (PreK3), 4-5 years old (PreK4), and 5-6 years old (Kindergarten).
There is a maximum of 20 students per group facilitated for the entire school year by two full-time teachers, a Western speaker and a Chinese speaker. Teachers are responsible for 2-3 (30 – 45 minute) curriculum-based lessons per day, in various rooms throughout the school, on a variety subjects (math, language, science, life skills, computers, geography, drawing, painting, creative hands, media, gym, music, instruments, and culture). Lessons are taught in one language, either in English or in Chinese, not in both. We are not a language school: we teach 2 English classes a week, one in writing and one in reading.
We have an academic coordinator on staff who provides us with lesson materials and ideas, assists us with classroom management, group facilitation, communicating with parents and everything else under the sun. There is also a full-week of professional development and training provided each year in the last week of August, paid.
The salary: 15,000 RMB – 18,000 RMB per month (depending on qualifications and experience). Working hours are Monday to Friday from 8:15 am – 4:45 pm. All public holidays are paid. There are additional paid holidays during the winter break and at Chinese New Year, as well as during the summer. The school provides health care and assistance with finding accommodation if needed, as well as a one-year visa and a work permit, for which a bachelor’s degree and TEFL certification are required.
