Our organisation: We are proud to say that Projects Abroad is the leading organisation in recruiting young people from the UK, Europe, USA, Canada and South Africa to do worthwhile voluntary work overseas.
Annually we send over 7,000 enthusiastic volunteers to 27 developing countries to teach conversational English and to gain work experience in the fields of business, medicine, journalism, law, sports, care and conservation. We put enormous importance on the welfare of our volunteers during their time with us overseas – our global team is committed to providing our volunteers with the experience of a lifetime. Our offices and local staff in each destination provide back-up and support for our volunteers which is vital to the success of the organisation.
Your role as Assistant Country Manager :
? Working closely with our Director for China and our team of local staff, you will be responsible for making sure each new arrival feels welcome and secure in their new environment
? You will maintain effective communication between our work placements, host families and the local office
? You will help set-up new work placements and finalise accommodation arrangements for future volunteers
? You will give close supervision to our volunteers throughout their time in China
? The job is busy and can be physically demanding. You should be prepared to work flexible hours on any day and should be available as 24 hr support to volunteers should they require it
Our requirements: You should be:
? A graduate
? Native English speaker, Mandarin a plus.
? Mature in attitude and outlook
? Able to remain calm and efficient under pressure
? An excellent communicator with people of all ages and cultures
? A team player, able to delegate work appropriately and fairly amongst other staff
? Flexible, adaptable and able to take direction and accept feedback (from UK office and local director)
? Friendly and personable with customer service skills, you must respond well to others
? Experience in teaching or support work would be an advantage
Contract, salary and benefits
Contract
Projects Abroad staff are employed on a permanent contract, subject to a three-month probationary period. An offer of employment is dependent upon receipt of satisfactory references, a medical assessment (if necessary) and personal interview.
Salary & benefits
You will be paid a competitive salary as well as agreed day-to-day work-related expenses; the exact salary depends upon your experience and will be discussed with you during the interview.
