Position: Application Engineer for Heavy Duty and Passenger Car

Continued growth of the Saffil Automotive business is dependent upon the success of Saffil’s Ecoflex Substrate Support System products especially in the fast growing heavy duty & PC market in CHINA. The Ecoflex Application Engineer will be part of the technical sales team which will be assuring and driving that success. He will also look after new markets like stationary material, boats, trains etc.
The Application Engineer is being recruited to:
§ Develop a strong technical understanding of Heavy Duty exhaust systems, including DPF and SCR applications.
§ Develop a strong technical understanding of PC exhaust systems, including DOC, DPF and SCR applications.
§ Develop new product opportunities for Saffil Automotive (with the support of the UK based technical team)
§ Build on technical relationships within the Automotive OEM Suppliers in CHINA and Rest of World.
§ Support Ecoflex Engineering UK team in developing the method of design of Ecoflex products used in customer applications.
§ Directly support customer project teams in initial development of a platform and maintaining support during platform life cycle.
§ Understand and alter R&D strategy to introduce new products in a changing marketplace.
§ Work closely with and give support to the sales force in order to understand the customer’s needs and future concerns
Applicants for this position will need:
Objectives for the first 12 months
1) Get a full understanding of how Saffil Automotive designs system solutions.
2) Be able to present a system design to customer with graphical presentation (after 1-2 month).
3) Get an understanding of the various systems options offered to the truck and car manufacturers and the benefit of using Saffil Automotive mats opposite to other solutions.
This should be achieved in 1 month with theoretical training with the Application Engineers and R&D in the UK and during joint visits to canners and OEMs.
4) Get an understanding of the manufacturing processes to make Saffil products.
This should be achieved in spending time in Holywell or South Africa with the production team also meeting quality & logistics
5) Get a good understanding of the company structure to be able to find the right people to answer customers needs.
