Assistant Director for Academic Affairs
l Assist the Director with management of the academic program and supervision of the academic support staff.
l Assist the Director in developing and implementing a curriculum within the context of New York University’s academic organization and standards
l Assist the Director in developing new and innovative courses that make use of the unique opportunities of the location and academic resources in Shanghai.
l Assist the Director in identifying, hiring, evaluating, and coordinating local faculty to lecture and teach seminar courses at an appropriate academic level, bearing in mind differences between American and local styles of instruction.
l Promote interaction among local faculty and between local faculty and visiting NYU professors, especially in discussions of pedagogy and curricular issues.
l Provide academic advising for students.
l Develop and enable student and faculty use of on-site and local libraries, archives, and resources; promote the use of on-line resources.
l Develop and implement a guest lecture program coordinated with the particular semester’s curriculum.
l Manage timely and accurate reporting of student grades.
l Assist faculty members in their research and other scholarly activities in Shanghai
l Serve as Teaching Assistant for certain academic courses as appropriate
l Supervise administrative management of credit-bearing internship program
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree minimum.
· Familiarity with US and Chinese educational systems
· Fluent in English, basic Chinese language skill is a plus.
· Willing to work some evenings and weekends.
· Must possess problem solving, organizational, time management, and written and verbal communication skills
· Must be able to manage multiple demands in a setting of high student and faculty contact and interaction.
· Responsible, self-motivated, flexible, creative/ ability to use one’s own initiative, team player, able to work well under pressure.
Experience living and/or working in China; a Master’s degree in East Asian Studies or related field, and fluency in Mandarin are all preferred.
