Jiangsu College of Information Technology (JSIT) is under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Provincial Education Commission, the first to try adopting a shareholding system and reforming school-running and management mechanisms. In 2003 JSIT was rectified by the Ministry of Education of P.R.China as one of the first 35 state exemplary colleges of software technology.
Wuxi Radio Industry School, one of the two schools merged into JSIT, was established in April 4th 1953 as China’s first secondary technical school of electronics. During its long history, it has offered great talent support to domestic electronic information industry and the economic construction of Jiangsu Province. With over 50 years’ rich cultural accumulation, JSIT is strict in school running and has formed good school style, teaching style and learning style.
With 50 years more of cultivation behind, JSIT has developed into a famous training base of talents with high skills in domestic electronic information sector.
Currently JSIT has a full-time enrollment of about 10,000 students. It covers a building area of 150,000 ㎡ with enough teaching and living facilities.
JSIT has now a faculty of about 500 and a teaching staff of about 400 full-time teachers, all of whom have Bachelor’s Degree and 20％ of whom have Master’s Degree or have received education of this level. While over 70％ of the teachers have intermediate or senior professional titles, many are proficient both in academic theory and in practice, who are fit for vocational education.
JSIT is composed of computer engineering department, electronic and information engineering department, mechanical and electrical engineering department, arts and design department, business administration department and so on. With over 40 conventional and advantageous specialties, characteristic specialties, or new specialties, among whom are pattern design and production, mechatronics, mechanical-electronic control and automation, integrated circuit production, applied electronic skill, applied computer technology, computer software and application, international finance, international trade, arts and design, travel management and air steward training etc., it has developed into a new phase with shining school running characteristics and a full coverage of specialties and school productions.
Today with its openness and developmental idea, which surpasses normal thinking, JSIT is making efforts to meet the demand of times in economic and social development, improve teaching quality, form its own characteristics, establish a brand, become one of the state exemplary higher vocational institutions, and realize its leaping development facing the 21th century.
